Chapter P

P.1- Graphical Representation of Data

Quadrants

Distance formula:

Find the distance between points (6,-3), (6,5)

Midpoint Formula

Standard for of the equation of a circle

P.2- Graphs of Equations

Sketching a graph by point plotting

Solve the equation for y using the variables such as -1,0,1,2,3 for x.
To graph, plot the points (x,y) and connect

Tip: when graphing with a calculator, make sure to adjust the graphing window in order to get the full geometric perspective

P.3- Lines in the Plane

Slope is change in y over change in x
Point- Slope Formula
Slope-Intercept
Two distinct nonvertical lines if an only if their slopes are equal
Two nonvertical lines are perpendicular if and only if their slopes are negative reciprocals of each other:
P.4- Solving Equations Algebraically and Graphically

When dealing with absolute value equations, always isolate the absolute value first. Break into two equations, one with positive values inside the absolute value symbol and one with negative. Solve both equations and check.

Solving an equation of Quadratic Type
Solving an equation involving a Radical
Solving an equation by Factoring
